The hospitals make more money with more patients seen and more tests orders, thus they care more about this than to quality of care delivered and the patient health outcomes. These forces make endocrinologists see more patients and keep them from spending the time needed to truly improve the health and lives of their patients.

Beyond salary, candidates are often attracted to positions offering a desirable quality of life, such as outpatient-focused roles with minimal on-call responsibilities and opportunities for academic involvement or leadership positions.
